The CMMG 22 Evolution Review – Stainless Steel Conversion Bolt 5.56 to 22LR. Here is the Cmmg website =
Normally ppl with M4 & AR15s train with .223 &/or 5.56 – I get my .223 ammo from HPR ammo, a U.S. based company that offers lots of great ammo, here is their website…
Here is the link for the 22 Evolution

Here is my review of the newest, stainless steel conversion bolt from CMMG. This 22 Evolution is specifically made for the 5.56 mil spec AR-15 family of firearms. It replaces the standard bolt assembly so your rig can shoot .22LR ammunition. Its a recoil operated sub-caliber device that shoots great – little to no malfunctions and can save you a lot of money by shooting .22LR instead of 5.56 ammo.
CMMG makes both right & left handed models to satisfy every shooter, and they make conversion bolts for .223 and 5.56 milled AR platforms. The suggested ammo to use is Federal .22LR 36 grain, HP, copper plated rounds or similar ammo. CMMG recommends a 100 round break in period and during this test I fired 200+ rounds with only 2 stovepipes. Light & subsonic ammo is not recommended as it will not operate as well as the above mentioned ammo.
Here is CMMG‘s ammunition warning page…
Shooting with the 22 Evolution will save you a lot of money & give high quality results (if you can aim and shoot straight). I am pretty pleased with the results and look forward to shooting more with this conversion bolt.
Here is the vid review of the original CMMG and some accuracy vids where I split playing cards with the 22LR conversion bolt…

Split playing cards at 100 to 150? Really? Maybe 100 to 150 INCHES… LMAO
Playing cards is not moa testing and feet aren’t yards.
Great 👍 video!

mine gives the best accuracy with subsonics
Great video. Funny thing is everyone says use Federal 36gr bulk pack and I can't get that to run 100% in either of my cmmg uppers. I've narrowed it down to RGB 36 and cci mini mags? Guess Remington finally got there newer ammo right? Imho!
Does that still use the gas to cycle or has it switched over to blowback?
Gen 2 I got mine it and really enjoy it! Shot well, magazines fed well. I am very happy with this product!
What optic is that?
Very nice. Thank you.
my Adams Arms AR is gas controllable so close the gas port and off I go. love this conversion. I get loads of practice on the cheap and I can let my grandkids shoot the AR and they are comfortable doing so.
Split cards out to 300 yds? pag sure…..
Nice review of this product. Anyone know what sights he's using?
Think I could hit a 1" wide 12" high steel bar at 150 yards with this?
Any chance there is a kit for gas piston ARs?
Is this change of ammo going to be hard on the lining of the barrel?
Thank you for the info.
Can somebody compare to the S&W MP-1522 rifle that obviously costs 2-3x more and is not exactly like the AR Rifle ?
I have one of these and I would have to agree with those who say it is not very accurate. The barrel of his gun was less than 20 feet away. For a little bit more money than this cost (200 bucks) you can get a 10/22.
Would you mind telling me what red dot your rifle is wearing?
You're impressed from a few feet away by a round gone through a barrel with a wrong slow twist rate for stability and accuracy out past probably 70 yards at most? Come on man, it is what it is. It's not an "accurate" alternative, it's a cheap sub standard alternative good for short plinking. That's not negative, it's the real deal. I assume you're out to inform and not to do an ad here. What you get is cheesy .22 pistol accuracy, and not an accurate pistol. Yeah, it is worth something, but it won't shoot with a decent .22 rifle. A $100 cricket will outshoot this, by a long shot.
Thanks for a great video!
Great video 🙂 I just have one question, I have a S&W M&P 15 Sport, it has no forward assist, So do you recommened to purchas the original Cmmg 22LR conversion kit or the Evolution one in this video ?
Interesting, thank you. I feel that you have unintentionally demonstrated some abysmal accuracy with this thing, but the causes are not clear. I might nevertheless be interested if the price were right. My concern is reliability – you mentioned some problems… What kind of buffer are you running?? I have serous doubts about this thing cycling reliably with, e.g., an H2 buffer…
Thanks, this helped me make my decision. =)
Great video work and overall good video.
This is an excellent video, thank you. One question, what is the difference between the CMMG Alpha and Bravo?
Tis i
Does it damage the barrel? I know the barrel isn't designed to shoot .22lr.
