  1. For anyone watching this: There is nothing wrong with the Spot On website/software or the scope. He simply didn't understand how to use the Spot On website as a first timer.

    He had his scope set on 14x when it should have been set on 16x since this is a SFP scope and not a FFP. That means his POI will gradually be higher (which is what the website says).

    With his load and the subtension he is using, the gun will shoot higher on lower power. Here is the data according from the Spot On website which perfectly matches his results.

    300 yards
    14x = 307
    16x = 284
    Difference in drop is 3" high

    400 yards
    14x = 412 yards
    16x = 381 yards
    Difference in drop is 5" high

    500 yards
    14x = 532 yards
    16x = 490 yards
    Difference in drop is 15" high

    If you account for MOA being 5" at 500 yards, that means he can technically be 20" high at 500 yards.

    If he was zoomed in to 16x he would have shot 3" lower at 300 yards, 5" lower at 400 yards and 15" lower at 500 yards. He was 3" off, 5.5" off and 20" off at those respective ranges.

    Also, he is shooting a 168gr Sierra Matching at 2650fps. The optimum speed for that specific bullet would have been 2720fps which would have made him dead center on each subtension.

    Some of the most accurate factory loads for this scope will be:
    Barnes 168gr TTSX at 2680fps
    Federal 168gr Tactical Bonded Tip at 2700fps
    Federal 165gr Trophy Copper at 2700fps
    Federal 165gr Trophy Bonded Tip at 2700fps
    Federal 150gr Fusion MSR at 2770fps
    Hornady 168gr A-Max at 2700fps
    Hornady 168gr BTHP Moly at 2700fps
    Nosler 165gr Partition at 2800fps
    Remington 150gr Premier Copper Solid Tipped at 2820fps
    Remington 165gr Premier AccuTip Boat Tail at 2700fps
    Remington 168gr BTHP Match at 2680fps
    Winchester 147gr FMJ at 2800fps
    Winchester 150gr Deer Season XP at 2820fps
    Winchester 168gr Ballistic Silver Tip at 2670fps
    PMC 168gr BTHP (Precision) at 2700fps
    Wolf 168gr Military Classic FMJ at 2745 fps

  2. I really liked the video & your honesty. If you don't mind me being honest I'll say this; Some of us are not as young as we used to be & neither are our eyes. For me I find @ the longer ranges I just hip shoot but there's only one problem with that. Which is this, if anybody witness's the shot you made from the hip at those ranges, you have to walk away with such confidence, I'm not sure if anybody could pull off that walk with their jaw dragging the ground!!! Just my 2 cents, sir

  3. what went wrong is the bullet drop isn't as drastic a the scope projects it to be. if at 500 yards you used the hole on the scope for 400, you would hit in the kill zone. I think that scope will be better on a shorter barrel rifle, and not the one you're using.

    also, grouping is more relevant when it comes to measuring rifle accuracy; not the scope.

    my $0.02

  4. id just write down that dope and adjust the turret because seems like your bc or fps is more than what u put in there ballistic calculator on there sight …i got the p223 on my AR and i gotta account for the lower fps from my 16inch barrel…nice groups tho bud !

  5. I bought this scope and I really think I shouldve gotten the Nikoplex reticle. I dont like too many obstructions when shooting at distance. We'll see what happens. The scopes that really catch my eye are at the $1500 and up price range. I bought this scope because for the price its as good as I can expect it to be for a .308 AR10. I just cant justify spending what a rifle cost for a scope I dont plan on using that often anyways

  6. What do you have the zero of the scope at? It seems to me that it's zeroed at 100, as your pattern was under 1/4" and your third shot actually threaded the needle. If that is the case you are compensating elevation way too much in your other shots. I think the dots on the scope are way off, if you are using them. I must be honest, that is why I prefer scopes without the dots because I can use my eye to compensate for bullet drop rather than a dot that I'm not used to. Longest I've shot is 500 yards as of now so I can't sit here and tell you I'm an expert by any means at all, but what I can say based upon the evidence here is that either the dots are completely off or they aren't being used correctly (that could be the mirage factor as well).

  7. "Something went wrong…" The Sig SSG 3000 has a 24" barrel. I believe you're over-compensating for bullet drop from loss in velocity as might be experienced from a shorter 16"-18" barrel from an AR-10. As a result, your strikes are considerably higher than your target. The Nikon M-308 is designed to operate best on the AR-10 platform, not a long-barrel, bolt action rifle.

  8. This scope is made for an AR 10 shooting a 168 grain BTHP load, that is what the drop zone is calculated for. I think if you will stick with that platform you'll get much better results. I couldn't help but notice that you place your hand on the scope while shooting- not good, the grip and the rifles kick may shift the scope. It can be about as bad as gripping the mag./ clip while shooting an AR, may cause a failure to feed. M-308 does not belong on a bolt action. Happy shooting / hunting

  9. Do you think that your shims in the mount could've attributed to the inconsistency at 500?
    I imagine that Nikon assumes that the scope is parallel to the bore, but I'm just assuming.
    I'm thinking of picking this up for my PWS MK214 (308 AR with a 14 inch barrel) to take hogs at varying distance.
    Should be a good match.

  10. Sir i get this rifle (ssg 3000) in a few days. The Mag is made for longaction . What is the max. OAL of the catridge ?
    i nowhere can find infos about this 🙁 I load 155 gr A MAX as my favs Greets

  11. Agreed w/Nick on making a real guy's vid.  I may not have heard, but did the shooter say what his point of aim was – I mean, which dot/circle he was using on the scope?  Also, I was wondering about his load.  That 400 yard shooting was simply an outstanding group!
