Just today, my wife and I ran over 300 rounds through the CMMG AR-15 .22 conversion kit in my AR-15 and it ran without a hiccup. I recommend this drop-in kit to anyone who wants to introduce new shooters to the AR-15 platform or wants to save some money on ammo while plinking at the range. This conversion kit gets two thumbs up from me.

Did you ever run some CCI Quiet through it does it cycle
I've used my CMMG 'Bravo' in two 16" uppers. A 1:9( Wylde) and a 1:8 twist barrel(S&W) and they seem to shoot about the same.. With match grade ammo, the 1:9 upper gets a little better score.
So, that 1:9T upper has become my .22RF upper.. Not cleaned excessively after ranges trips.
But, I noticed the 1:9 Wylde is getting a lot of chamber blow-back. The outside of the CMMG camber insert is super dirty after only 50 rounds.. It's builds up hard residue..
Anyone else seeing that kind of build up?? It's not effecting the function, so maybe it's a non-problem..
Notes:
Since my designated .22RF upper isn't shooting any .223 ammo, I've turned off the gas tube. This change keeps the Upper and Lower a LOT cleaner!
Besides cleanliness, I'm no longer getting any hot gas blowing back in my face. That was taking the fun out of .22 shooting.. (I'm Not using a suppressor).
DIY: I loosened the two allen set screws in the bottom of the gas block and moved it forward (towards muzzle) about 0.2". Retightened the gas block screws, no more gray coating!
The gas hole in the barrel is covered by the (misaligned) gas block, so the handguard stays clean too.. This tweak also keeps the gas tube nice and clean, in case I ever need to fire some .223 ammo..
Follow up video?.
mine shoots good with the 10.5 barrel without having to adjust red dot from 223…….with the 16.5 barrel it shoots low at 50 yrds
Know this is old post but a lot of negative reviews out there today do you still recommend this kit? You seem to be a Good reliable channel here so your opinion matters thanks.
It sounds louder then I thought it would I have a 22 an it's super quiet
can it be used in .223 wylde
thanx for hitting me with every shell casing.. It's good for ya. LMFAO best part of the video. Thumbs Up 🙂
Nice!
cool video and i am a surprised at how easy the conversion kit went in and you were ready to roll. i there an ar-15 that already comes in 22lr? if so can that be converted to the 556? in other words reverse conversion?
Thanks for the video. I ordered a cmmg kit a few days ago so am living vicariously through videos in the meantime. Am hoping the 1/9 twist barrel will work good, though I hear 1/16 is ideal.
Have you tried other 22 magazines (after market ones) with this kit?
Hi there. Great video. I'm glad I found your page because I'm a new shooter and I already have 2 pistols under my belt. I have a very limited budget at about $500 and I'm looking at buying a the AR 15-22 rifle. Here in CT I can get a stock AR 15-22 at $400 plus tax, but I'd also need a decent, yet inexpensive red dot. That brings me to about $500. HOWEVERRRRR, I was told by a gentleman to just buy an AR 15 and the conversion kit and I'll thank him later. But here's my apprehension: 1. I don't have a lot of money for the ammo (2.23 or 5.56). The 15-22 is cheaper to shoot. 2. I'm a female and I don't feel like I'll be needing an AR 15 later down the road for anything big. 3. Buying the AR 15 plus the conversion kit and red dot will run me about $800, which is a lot. 4. I don't need it for protection or any of that SHTF stuff. I simply want to go to the range and shoot…have fun…and not spend a lot of money. 5. I'll be using it at an indoor range which doesn't provide all that much distance. Sooo, that's about it. Am I missing something? Should I consider shelling out the extra cash? Also, I'm not a mechanic so if the conversion kit clogs up the gas tube then I'm SOL or I'd have to shell out EXTRA cash to have it cleaned! Could you please offer some guidance in this area? Much appreciated. Thank you.
You do awesome vids! -Ranger
will the 22 clog up the gas tube?
great video as usual, yet another video that's making me buy something
Sir, will this work on a gas operated ar 15? sorry for my ignorance
I'm considering purchasing 1of these for my 556 and I am concerned about how 22lr will affect my barrel. Have you noticed any problems? Thanks for your video
Did you even need ear pro lol
Would this hurt my AR15 at all?
I now use this with the Taccom pressure plug due to my first conversion starting to crack from recoil. Also, the better mag 15-22 mag adapter is awesome for using 15-22 mags in the conversion 🙂
Thanks for the video.
i own the same kit. there is a little blow back in my face but other then that i love it. good video. also cleaning it is easy.
How well does it shoot (accuracy)? I imagine the rifling sizes are way different
Could I use this with my 300 blackout rifle?
Can you run it through a 556 suppressor?
And you don't worry about that reciprocating adapter wearing out your chamber?
Was looking into this but since 22LR seems to disappear before it hits the shelves, the conversion kit remains on the sidelines until the 22LR market opens up again. Good video, Thanks!
Looks like fun…I wonder if they have 10 round mags for those of us that live in oppressed NewYorkistan…? And of course .22lr is still nearly impossible to find here…
Great review. Now, can I change out the barrel for a 22 variant? Or at that point should I just get a M&P 15-22?
Awesome review! Quick question. What kind of trigger were you using with the CMMG drop in kit? A standard single stage GI trigger or a two stage trigger? Thanks.
Great review!
i have this kit myself…. it's just awesome!!
Looks good! We've been wanting to get one or two of these conversion kits.
Great short video I would've liked to mention some pricing on it for future reference for now I'm fine with not being lazy and looking it up for myself for the amount of interest sparked on the conversion kit through this have heard about some other kit but haven't heard good things about them so thanks for showing one that actually works well
These kits seem pretty cool. My concern is that most .22LR ammo is not jacketed. I'm sure that isn't going to harm the barrel, but it would seem to me that it would cause excessive lead fouling making cleaning a PITA. I would probably consider dedicating an older AR to the kit.
i had mine well over three years its fun, cant go to the range with out it.
And what scope/red dot is that?
MUST HAVE!!! Nice
nate, make sure you use copper jacketed ammo, that non jacketed stuff clogged up my gas port on the barrel.
Nice and easy, Ill have to look into those!
I have a ciener conversion and have nothing but problems with it….ftf, fte, the works. I've been looking for a new one
I would be careful with the trigger that you have, from my understanding upgraded triggers can not take the blow back and could result in the trigger snapping.
i kind of wanna get one too…
Would it damage the rifeling in the barrel?
