Flashlights for EDC, at work, at home, in the field, on the road, and everywhere. A quick overview of the flashlights that Kyoshi carries… at work, on the road, in the woods, and everywhere. A compare and contrast of a few different lights used for different purposes, and an opportunity for us all to share our thoughts on what we all use, like best, and which ones are on our “wish lists”

In this video Kyoshi Dave Herman of Five Elements Tactical Training, shares his experience with some affordable flashlights from reputable manufacturers, and why he likes them. Among them are the Streamlight Strion LED HL, the Streamlight Stylus Pro, the Streamlight MicroStream, the Fenix PD 25, and the Petzl Tactikka Stealth headlamp.

As a plainclothes police officer, working on a warrant squad, there are certain tactical advantages to some of these lights. During survival training, camping, hiking, or backpacking, certain lights are more useful than others. When building a go bag, bug out bag, get home bag, or survival bag, certain options are better than others too. Even having a bug in kit, or emergency preparedness kit, or black out kit, certain lights and batteries are better options than others as well.

Check it out, pass it on.
Be safe, always.

    olight

  2. Thanks for the rundown! I get dressed in the dark using a similar AAA flashlight I got from a Scout Camp store and wish I had a few more so I’ll have to check out the Mini.
    Referred by Corp. Corner.

  3. Great stuff told my niece to switch as she just graduated college and by herself alot. She liked the first 3 i sent. Keep up the fantastic work!!

  4. THANK YOU for sharing what you use for a portable light. My "Go to" light is made by STIHL and runs on 3 AAA batteries. It is about 6" long, about 3/4" (round), diameter. It has an awesome strong magnet in one end and an LED high Luman light in the other end. Then a white milky clear panel about 2" from one end and 1" from the other end and goes half way around the body of the light, (light panel). Close to the magnet end, in the side lense, is a rubber coated button.
Click it once, the end LED comes on. Click it again and it turns off. Click it again and the whole side lights up. Click it again and its off again.
The end LED brightens up a large area about 8' wide at 20' away. The side light brightens up a 20' x 20' area, 6' high from the floor. It's a rough work light that Stihl made to work on their machines in the forrest. It comes with the batteries and costs about $8.00 . ((I bought everyone on my CHRISTmas list, this year, (2021), one for their present.)) I know they all will be able to enjoy-joy it's use.
It fits your pocket. It has a pocket clip on it and is STIHL orange, white and black, so you won't loose it in the woods…!
I bought mine in a local hardware store that sells STIHL chain saws and other of their tools.

  5. Out of baby cop school I carried the old school SL 20 with regular bulb. Used that up until 2014. Switched to the Klarus Xt 20 I think. Dual head light and fit in my asp holder on my rig.

  6. Just been put on to this channel by corporals corner it was a good first one to watch as for the red lamp I'm a cub leader in England and when we go out for a walk with the cubs and Scout's we have people at the back with the red lamp facing backwards so oncoming cars will see a red lamp and know it's a group of people walking the other way. I enjoyed it will continue to watch. Thanks

  7. My go to duty lights are the Nitecore.. P12. Generally about $45. Probably own about 5 of them. But any light that uses the 18650 battery (the one in your light) are usually awesome. I've got lanterns, fans, and assrt camping gear that use the same batteries.

  8. Love the notepad usage! I have ADHD, not the BS version everyone tells doctors so they can get medication to get “more done”, but one of the coping skills I developed through the years was to WRITE everything important down. I don’t always read the notes but the act of writing helps focus and retain the information and keep me on task so I can definitely relate on that action. In this age everything we experience on a daily basis is sensory overload and people don’t realize it or realize what their mind dismissed as noncritical information and thus not retained.

Really enjoying your content, helpful/informative and you only speak from experience which adds credit to the opinions shared with no “fluff”.

  9. I've got lights from Fenix (UC40UE, PD35), Imalent (MS03), and Thrunite (TC20 V2, Catapult V6 v2). My Thrunites have a Firefly Mode that only puts out 0.3 lumens. Really good for not waking up my wife when I get up at 5 am. It's just enough light.

If you want lumens that Imalent is crazy. 13,000 lumens on turbo is what they claim. I'm not sure if that's true, but it does put out a LOT of light. It's a total floodlight. But man, it gets really hot really fast on turbo. I had it in my pocket, forgot to lock it (3 quick clicks of the button), and bumped it on. It burned a hole in my pocket and burned my leg before I even knew what was happening.

    I did that twice. Lol.

  10. My go to is a head lamp (for hunting/fishing) and I have bought expensive and cheap. Broken/lost both. What I settled on is jumping on Amazon, look for one of the highest reviews for your budget with a usb charger. Throw that in your pack with one of those portable charging packs and your good go.

  11. Tried your whip finish works great. I got a 5000 ft roll of mil surplus thread. Try to put a dab of liquid stich on the end gets like cement. Sold in the sewing section. Always keep 2 lights on your person. I learned the hard way. Doesn't help you in the car. Like your show man. Thank you corporal.

  12. Thanks for this vid !
I have several brands of lights, my favorite is "monster flashlights". I have bought five or six of them, and have given a couple to my daughters. You can "option" them when you order them. Different reflectors, different mode switches, etc. They are not cheap, but not expensive either, we'll call them mid-priced. Understand when you look at their website, it's all "a la carte", so you need to add all the things you need to the cart. I have a couple that have beat to heck, and still work perfectly. Highly recco'd.

A cheap alternative is the chinese made Feyachi (amazon). I've got a couple and they are actually decent.

  13. I carry a Femix CL09 a dome flood light with small carbiner – Small for lighting an area and red flashing light to use as emergency rear bike light or for walking in dark street. [ has a green light as – any one know what the green light is for ? ]

  14. I have a beat up phone no smart phone it is always off lights work also off, and it is also my wake up alarm clock it also works in off mode. i just came from a Bushcraft situation near the Belgium Ardenne where i used it allot. i am back in the Netherlands right now.

  15. The 3 lights I have are all no name brands and they serve their purpose.
1.) Harbor Freight brand about the size of your duty/personal carry. Has hi/lo an strobe. The plus is can adjust the beam from flood to stream. Runs 4 AAA batteries.
    2) good old Walmart 300 lume head lamp. Hi/lo plus red. Think 2 AA
    3) another Walmart small light. Found them on clearance for $3 for a 10 pack. Bought 2 packs.

  16. Good sharing . What i use….Fenix E03R for my keychain, CRYPTO LITE usb Enforcement Beacon and a Nitecore MH12 for night duty. An Ledlenser Running Sport Neo H4 headamp for night run/camp , a Nitecore MH12 V2 for my overnight trekking/camping ,plus two Nitecore LR10s for my tent/tarp. .Each one serves its basic purpose well and are light easy to carry around. Never had a chance to try out Streamlight products though cos its not widely available where I am.

  17. A bit rambling on the dialogue but the PD 25 you carry is a nice light. I used to buy Fenix lights until I found Olight. The PD 25 requires you to remove the battery and plug it in to a USB charger. The Olight has a surface charge magnetic connection that does not require the battery to be removed. That is a very handy way to keep it charged and my EDC (Olight Warrior Mini 2) has a close proximity sensor in the flashlight head that reduces the light output if it is really close to an object so that thermal burns can be eliminated in an accidental flashlight turn-on situation. It also allows you not to be blinded when you don't need a super bright light up close (looking at paperwork etc.). Of course you can press and hold to cycle through the normal modes or use the tail switch to instantly go into Turbo Mode (1750 lumens). Best of luck with your channel.
