  1. Make you some copper spacers for you chuck jaws, standard thread pitch for .308 cal is 5/8-24, 5.56/.223 is 1/2-28. on all my suppressors. We made the spider for the back of the spindle, and I with the method I use to center the bore with a 4 jaws is pretty quick.

  2. Hi Jay,

I don't want to sound too harsh so apologies in advance; I really think before you work with barrel blanks you need to go back and give your lathe a thorough test on basic bar stock and the like. I would not tolerate the amount of vibration and oscillation in both workpiece and tool I'm seeing in the video. It's too much for even basic small metal parts, much less a gun barrel. I admit to having even less lathe time than you, but I'm still concerned your tool isn't sufficient.

Maybe a good way forward would be to look up the Mil Spec (If you haven't already) and put together a test of your equipment using basic bar stock to try and mill the tolerances and dimensions specified.

  3. Nice work Phil.
What is the correct tolerance on concentricity, measured on the pad ?? , how did you build the central pad ?? Thanks Fabio
    … I'm waiting for part 5 😉 Chambering and finishing …
