Red Dot + Magnifier vs LPVO

The age old question, what is better, a red dot + magnifier or a LPVO (low power variable optic). In this video we explore the pros and cons of each optic system. The LPVO is a Vortex Viper Gen 2 1-6, on a Radian Defense Model 1. The competitor is a EOTech EXPS-3 with a G33 magnifier, both of which are on Unity Fast Mounts. The magnifier gun is a Type A Rifle 11.5 Pro model. Suppressor on the Type A is an OSS Helix 556. We hope you enjoy and chime in down in the comments.

  1. Good video bud, I personally run the eotech combo as a lefty. I run a fixed front post and a troy battle sight duel aputure flip up, also I live in an area on the east coast where the longest shots I'd ever take are within 350, the way I see it if something crazy ever went down and I can no longer use my primary sighting system, I'll yank both off and go to irons, which is completely usable in my area any day.

  2. This product is basically a unicorn that is almost never available for purchase…. like a lot of other things in the firearm industry, it’s a cool idea but nothing more. Unicorn UNOBTANIUM bullshit. On this topic I look forward to all the cool stuff at shot 2021 coming to market early 2030

  3. Lol I agree about the low ready argument, that shit ain't low ready. The drill is supposed to replicate you on a patrol, you see a threat, now present. You hold the rifle out in front of you like you just did on a patrol, and I grantee you're arms are toast within 10 mins haha. But hey, you do you man.

My setup's got an Eotech with fixed front a rear irons, no magnifier. Battery goes out? Fuck it, keep rollin cuz the irons are still right there. Good for anything 200ish and in.

  4. The weight and crap battery life are EOtech specific.
With a Aimpoint style micro set up, with Holosun, Sig Optics, some others, then the lighter magnifiers, always going to be lighter than pretty much any LPVO.
Also, I would trust a budget red dot to hold zero after freezing temps, getting beat on, dropped, etc much more than a budget LPVO.
But, what is the best? Top of the line 1-6 1-8, with one of the best qd cantilever mounts… going to pay for it though, in shekels and weight.

  5. It is very relaxing to hear two friend's opinions and concerns on LPVOs vs Red Dots. No one was shilling or mincing words. That comment about Red Dot batter life and QD mounts made me realize my RED Dot is on a screw in mount. Going to change that after the holidays. My wallet is a dry husk of leather right now. But what do I do with spare parts?

  6. LPVO on my .308
    Red dot on my 762×39
    Scope on my .338lapua
What you put on what platform determines the max benefit you gain from that set up. Short range, light firearms run better with Red Dots. Long distance calibers demand a magnification. Army is applying a one size fits all approach by moving to LPVOs from Acogs.

  7. This helped a lot. I was leaning hard on lpvo but the >100yd argument/“city block” POV made me reconsider. Thanks for your work here. It was Actually going to be an AimpointPRO but I’d rather magnify a holographic so we arrive at Eotech. Now I’ve gotta spin up those things.

  8. Lpvo and a mount for the set up is going to be heavier than a red dot with magnifier. But the lpvo will help with reaching out on longer shots. So it'll be on the individuals needs and wants.

  9. You guys are without a doubt a channel pumping out higher quality videos than your subscriber numbers would indicate.

Keep the videos coming. I do think yall brush off high prices tags too easily though…

  10. So here’s a test, lay underneath a car on the ground where your eye is off center and make that shot with the lpv then pop up and make a shot at 200. Then try the eotech. Can’t run irons and eotech?! Wow…. literally they fold down underneath the magnifier and you can co-witnesses with the magnifier flipped over
