  2. I know which company you're talking about, regarding the extremely secure mount for the tape-switch on the SL Rail Mount HL-X. I won't mention them here out of respect for you. Since you didn't want to mention them in your video. I will say though, that I think their extremely secure mount is worth it. Here's why…. To get a similar set-up from SureFire, you have to buy everything separately. Each individual part. Which to me makes no sense at all. It's just SureFire maximizing their profits and nickel and dimeing their customers.

Now I'm not the sort of individual who bashes SureFire and thinks their lights are all overpriced. I own literally two dozen SureFire lights myself. Including some rather pricey custom bodied and modified ones. Thing is though, you don't buy a car one piece at a time. No car company sells you a body, and then charges you separately for the engine, the wheels, the tranny, the lights, etc. They sell you the car fully assembled. That's what Streamlight does.

You want a 1000 Lumen light mounted onto your rifle or carbine, your best bet will be to go with a company that has experience making such lights and has been around for a long time doing so. Best options being SureFire and Streamlight. If you go SureFire and buy each needed piece individually, you're going to be out about $400 or so. I found the Streamlight model online for $100, with everything included. Now the biggest issue that others on YouTube have mentioned is that the tape-switch wobbles back and forth a bit. That unmentioned company has (so far) come up with the absolute best solution to the problem. Yes, it's a bit expensive. But it works! Works fantastically. Problem solved. And, you still don't come close to paying about $400. You don't have to mess around with zip-ties that could snap off at any moment. And, unfortunately, no one has devised a cheaper just-as-good solution to the only real issue that going with the SL option a guy has to deal with.

  3. Papo, I've never ran a pressure pad, but I gotta ask, is it normally attached via zip ties? …and not being a whiney girl but won't the tips being cut up stab your fingers? lol

  4. Nice looking light! I agree that at this point anything under 1000 lumens on a rifle doesn’t cut it. They do make mounts that affix the pressure pads to mlock rails more securely than with zip ties.

  5. I had 6 of the HLXs for all my guns, but the internal diameter if the tube tolerences mixed with a weak spring, they turned on and off during recoil. Suggestion and temp fix is tape your batteries together and pull and stretch your spring so the batteries are always in contact and tight under recoil. If you havent had a problem…its just a matter of time. I got pissed and tired of it and sold all.mine and replaced them. Their handheld version works great, the spill and spot are perfect, but mounted under recoil as it was designed for is a big fail!

  6. Jarhead, do you find that your “pushing” rounds right of POA? It appears your birdcage is directing spent gases to the right, instead of up to manage muzzle flip.
Are you trying to protect your light bezel from residue?

  7. I wonder how good the light is at 200 yds.?

My AR is still wearing the Thrunite TN-15 spotlight, and really my only complaint to date has been the failure of the 2nd battery section. It still works with the first battery section alone, but I would prefer the extra voltage and burn time from running both. The reflector is a bit on the large side, but that's generally what you need to get the throw. Maybe the raw increase in diode output from the newer flashlights can overcome the smaller reflectors.

  8. I had to return (2) of those exact lights because they blink under recoil! NOT happy, because they seem like nice lights, but didn't turn out good in the end…
