I never understood the .458 SOCOM round. Wouldn't it be just as effective to use a good, reliable shotgun with slugs?

I need one for reasons, but I would much rather have larger double-stack magazines that hold 15 or 20 rounds.
As for the Vortex scope breaking, I kind of expected it. There are very few scopes that can stand up to semi guns with big bolts.
I recommend trying a SWFA SS scope. They come in 3x, 6x, 10x, 3-9x, 3-15x, and some other offerings. They're also really affordable, starting at $300. The US military has used them for years, even on Barrett 50 cals.
I don't get it. the .458 was designed to be used in a standard At lower. it's a bit expensive but I have 1400 or so rounds through my .458 built on a standard lower without any noticeable wear. I would probably have a lot more rounds through it if price wasn't so restrictive but the price being what it is I don't see ever being able to shoot enough to wear out my lower or bolt.

I always thought a Ruger 44 mag type mini 14 or m1 carbine style rifle would have been good for the jungles of Viet Nam, 25 rd mag, short distance but very powerful…
Can see a niche need for such a weapon as an lmg to fill the 7.62 AK/5.56 gap.

AR15/M16 /C4/DiMaco Carries a 5.56 mm, 30 round mag or thirty one with one up the spout. Why use an AR frame to carry a larger round, 7.62mm with only a ten round mag? The Fal/FN L1a1 had a 7.62 mag with a 20 round capacity.The Fal/FN L1a2 LMG had a 30 round mag. Anvil? May be effective but a toy boys rifle.No self respecting soldier would carry one.Take it out of your dads shed and have a plink in the woods.

Was in the middle of building a 458,,looked to see the ammo price..$131 For 20 rounds. Now doing Another 7.62×39 AR.oh well just can't afford ammo at that price.Now have two in 7.62×39,,one in 300blkout,,one in 5.56..will be happy with all of that?

I love my Geissele SSA (Super Semi-Automatic). It's really the perfect setup for hunting and target shooting.
What was the failure mode with the optic?? Was it with the LED lighting or was it mechanical?

I was initially looking at a 458 but ended up going with a 50 Beowulf as the ammo was more readily available. Although, the CMMG version of the 458 is awesome.
