CMMG Mutant Gen 2

CMMG unleashes the second generation of its venerable Mk47 Mutant rifle in 7.62X39mm. The Mk47 Mutant is CMMG‘s most prolific rifle, offering a melding of the ergonomics of the AR with the reliability of the AK. The newest expansion of the line is the AKR2,
which includes many of the functional upgrades CMMG has made in recent months to include its ambidextroud fire control, Charging handle, and their new RML15 MOLK
Handguard.

The rifle is built around a 16.1″ 1:10 MEDIUM TAPER 4140 BARREL THREADED 5/8-24 for compatibility with 30 caliber silencers, but it comes with their characteristic
SV MUZZLE BRAKE. To ensure full reliability the carbine length direct impingement operating system was built around an AR-10 bolt to give the guts adequate mass
and beef to handle sustained fire of the 7.62X39 cartridge.

To take advantage of the Mutant’s tack driving capabilities, the Trigger has been upgraded to the GEISSELE AUTOMATICS SSA and the rifle has been rounded out with a heavy dose of Magpul. Fro this video the rifle is wearing a trijicon mini acog.

  1. Cmmg: hello customers we have created a rifle by combining aspects of AKs and ARs !

Customer: awesome so you have combined the ARs superior strait insert mag changes with built hold open and a bolt release button with the AKs long stroke piston system witch has given it a reputation for reliability?

Cmmg: ………. no we did the opposite actually……..

Customer: so you decided to combine the ARs DI system only made worce by the fact that customers will use dirtier ammo with rock in mag changes without bolt hold open only made worce do to having to use the AR charging handle EVERY mag change

Cmmg: yeah we thought that was the best course of action

Customer:………… I'm sure your family still loves you

  2. I'm just going to grab a rifle and head down to the 446 yard range… NooOOO! My OCD will not allow for that. Move that target back 4 yards. (But, that's a nice rifle…)

  3. I got the first gen version of this rifle not too long after it was released. I put one of those Russian 75 round drum mags and a bipod on it and it almost looks like a light machine gun. A little heavy but still one of my favorite rifles to shoot!

  4. This looks perty promising, but for now I’ll take my AR47 Wyndham Weaponry cuz it just runs.
Can’t say anything bad about WW as they are just good quality rifles and seem to be a good organization.
My NPap runs pretty well but I’d take my Sar1 over it.
I’ve been intrigued by these mutants tho since they accept AK mags but for the price I just can’t make the leap.
Maybe one day and it definitely looks cool.

  5. Man what a beautifully put together rifle, these grow on me every time i see them. I wish my area shops would get one in so I could fondle it a lil. Good review, y’all have way too much fun! 👍🏻😎🇺🇸

  6. The only flaw I see with the Mutant is that it maintained the AR 15 T-handle as it's only method of charging the rifle. I would have loved to see a 'side charging' system AS WELL as the T-handle on this.
