Here’s a review of the CMMG RKM KeyMod free float hand guards. I use the RKM14 in the AR-15 platform but they’re available in several lengths and for the AR-15 and AR-10 platforms. The review has some shooting, a discussion of the specs and features, and what I think of it overall.

  1. I have been a sub for over year and have a question. I am not a fanboy of any company. I usually look for name brand quality at the best price since most of the stuff nowadays is OEM and then laser stamped. I just purchased an Ozark Ordnance 300 BLK CMMG 11" complete upper which I attached to a PSA complete lower for $528  (upper + lower.) Some things in polymer are ok, others I would rather have in aluminum. That is why I did not go with the M-Lok in addition to other reasons. However, I do like Magpul's AFG and cannot find anything like it in Keymod. Seekins just came out with a new AFG, but it look a little too narrow for my large hands. Any suggestions? What optic would you recommend?

  2. man i like this rail alot. i built my verry first ar15 rescently and it looks just like everyone elses…. (like a magpul truck tipped over on the highway and people grabbed as much as they could) lol.. im making myself change it. my problem is i like the way all black guns look. but i also like fde… i was thinking of geting the MI SSM rail in 15 or `13 inch  but i heard it gets extremely hot? i just dont know what to do.

  3. How is this rail preforming after a year since you made the video. My concerns are with the bottom clamp design. I think you mentioned having similar concerns in the video. That design is subject to front end misalignment by rising upward over time. If you're still using that front, iron sight after a year, have you noticed a change in accuracy or stability of the rail itself after use. Thanks.

  4. Thanks for the review. I just stripped the bubba camo from my 7mm-08 R25 and wanted to top it off with a decent handguard to replace the ancient style beat DPMS tube Remington had DPMS put on there. I need to stay around $150 and the generally over $200 SR-25 type handguard market was keeping that DPMS monster tube on there. The CMMG Keymod rails are right around $150, so that will help turn my R25 back into the LR-308 nature intended.

  5. Im confused on what wrench is needed for the installation of the CMMG barrel nut.  I have a PRI barrel nut wrench Ive used before with normal barrel nuts and a yankee hill nut but dont think itll work with the CMMG.  Could you point me to what you used to install yours? I plan on purchasing one of these for my Frankenstein AR.

  6. Are the KeyMod slots properly back-cut?  I would assume they are since you can connect the Noveske covers, but I emailed CMMG and asked this specific question and they gave me a wishy-washy answer. I ready to pull the trigger on this, but need to know if the KeyMod slots are properly done.  Can you let me know? Thanks
