3:09 easier said than done. Many roll pins are overize (TOO big around) and the roll pin punch invariably flare the end and you have to extract the pin and start over with another, hopefully slightly smaller diameter pin.
On my starter punch, I have ground a bevel on the edge to keep it from marring the finish inboard of the hole, where the raised part curved into the flat side of the lower.
Really wish someone made a jig to press the pin in, similar to the jig I have to press the trigger guard pin(s) in. Same with the gas block pin.
You guys just made a new subscriber, awesome video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I just got my Gisselle bolt catch today and also the Real Avid AR15 punch kit in also. Thanks for the tutorial I needed that 👍🏻🇺🇸
An easy way to do it is in a vise. Put the lower perpendicular to the edge with the roll pin aligned with the hole from the back so that the nub is between the jaws and crank the pin in to get it started. With the bolt catch in, you may have to wiggle and test it a bit to make sure the holes are lined up or put a punch or small allen wrench in the other end then take it out and don't force it if you meet resistance, and crank in until flush. No hammering, no risk of marring the finish or chipping, no special roll pin punch with cutaway handle. It's pinching it in and it works with the trigger guard too.
What vice are you using to hold the AR 15 in place
If your new bolt catch doesn’t come with a spring or a plunger can you use the ones from the old ones from the factory ?
So now does this mean after every shot you fire you press the bolt catch to release the bolt? So basically making the ar 15 bolt action?
I’m about to start getting parts from AT3
Great video and info.
Hey at3 question why do my low profile gasblock and tube both come with pins
So youtube is allowing buildling videos again? LOL.
Get a piece of 3/32" welding rod. Bend into an L and use as a slave pin to hold the bolt catch in alignment.
As a maintenance mechanic ,when I had a project that had roll pins I would put them in a freezer before hand. If your quick about it they go in quote easy cold.
WoW!! Nice give away……. Hello Randy….. good to see ya again… Need to be on EagleRun again….
I got a good video idea for you. How to adjust an A2 FSB post. I was at the range today, just got back, and I was trying to zero a fixed rear Daniel Defense sight with my A2 FSB. I assumed that UP on the FSB meant that the post would move UP if I turn it in that direction. I didn't realize that it meant the POI will move UP. I wasted about 20 rounds($10) of ammo before I figure it out.
