  1. Fun fact: School of the American Rifle did a great video on bench blocks to clamp an AR15 receiver. The thing ot note here is that the barrel is NOT supported here by anything other than the pin and upper receiver. These can fail under high torque.

Using a device like the Midwest Industries "Upper Receiver Rod" engages the barrel lugs itself to prevent rotation and prevents the torque force on the muzzle device from being transferred to the upper receiver itself.

  2. By using light sandpaper, you can lightly knock off a few thousandths of an inch of the flat side of the crush washer until you reach the final quarter turn at hand tight. Then tighten to zero with a wrench. This will prevent damage anywhere along the barrel. This is how I do it and how I will always do it.

  3. Idk if i did it correct or not but whem you said "do a 25% turn" i went ahead and did a whole full turn and stopped where when it was aligned. So basically i hand tightened then i grabbed my wrench and went a whole full turn not just the 25 you said, is that okay?

  4. Always love these kinds of videos. Explaining why things need to be the way they are and straight into the installation. Compared to other videos where a simple subject like this will be turned into a 45 minute video with only 2 minutes being about the actual subject.

  5. You dont need to get a brand new crush washer every time you take your A2 birdcage off. As long as it gets a reasonable amount of tourqe going back on its just fine as it is not under huge stress in normal operation. Might be differend on other devices and if you use a suppressor that mounts to the A2 id recomment replacing the washer every time. But just the A2 alone is never coming off because you didnt replace the washer.

  6. Everything is ok except vise. You're clamping upper receiver but not the barrel itself. You can damage barrel bed on upper receiver. You need action rod or what people use to call them.

  7. is this supposed to be tight to the barrel or loose, i have one for a 9mm pistol but the washer sits very loose and has nothing to push against till i get to the front of the weapon which i couldn't tread the muzzle break enough for
